How Do You Get Visitors To Your Website and Where Should You Start?

There are a lot of common challenges businesses have when it comes to getting more visitors to their websites. One of the biggest challenges is that businesses often don't know where to start. And even if they do know where to start, it can be difficult to figure out what's working and what's not.

The inspiration to create this post was based on two frequently asked questions I get asked on an almost daily basis "How do I get more website visitors?" and "Where should I start?"

So, where should you start?

A website is a critical piece of your marketing strategy because it's the foundation of your online presence. It's a piece of real estate you own, unlike a Facebook page or Google website. Additionally, it's a platform for you to tell your story, showcase your work, provide information about your company and solve your customer's challenges.

It's important that you can update the site and add content quickly and easily so that you can keep the content fresh and current. You will need to have access to the site's admin section and be able to upload files, images, add pages, post and make changes to existing content.

In order for people to find you online, you need a well-optimised website that is easy to find through search engines like Google, your website also needs to provide a great user experience for your visitors.

Your website needs to be visually appealing to your target audience and its content must resonate with them. It's also important to make sure that your website is updated regularly with fresh, new, relevant content that answers your target audience's questions and solves their most pressing problems or challenges.

About Us Page

The About page is often the second most visited page on a website. This is because it's often the place people look when they're trying to learn more about you and your business. You should aim to create a compelling and interesting About page that explains to visitors what you do, why you do it, how you help them and why they should care. Your About page should also include a photo of you and your team, your contact information, a link to your website's homepage and blog page.

Create a Blog Page and Start Blogging

Create a blog if you don't already have one and start publishing content regularly. Not only is this a great way to share your knowledge, expertise, ideas and insights with visitors but it also helps to establish you as an authority in your field. Blogging is also a great place to answer your reader's most frequently asked questions so you can better understand their pain points, challenges and needs.

Blogging or creating long-form content will also improve your website's search engine ranking position because search engines like Google love fresh, new, relevant content. You should aim to blog at least once a week and make sure that your blog posts are between 1,000 and 2,500 words long.

Direct Response Marketing Fundamentals

Direct Response Marketing is a strategic marketing approach that is laser-focused on getting potential customers (prospects) to take a specific response such as an email subscription, download a cheat sheet or purchase a product or service.

Target Audience

The purpose of your initial marketing efforts should be to find and attract your target audience. You can't sell to everyone, so you need to identify and focus on attracting the people who are most likely to buy from you.

Your target audience should be made up of people who have a problem or challenge that you can help them solve.

Once you know who your target audience is, you can create content and offers that resonate with them and that speaks to their needs and challenges.

Message to Market

Once you have found your target audience you will need to discover which messaging resonates the best with them. This is done by creating different versions of your marketing materials (such as ads, landing pages and videos) and testing them against each other to see which ones produce the best results.

The message to the market is key to your success because once you find the messaging that resonates, you can start creating content, offers and solutions that help them solve their problem or challenge.

Media To Reach The Market

Once you know your target audience and the messaging that resonates with them, you need to determine the best media to reach them. This will vary depending on who your target audience is. For example, if your target audience is business owners, you would use different media than if your target audience is consumers.

Lead Capture System

A lead capture system is a way to collect the contact information of potential customers who express an interest in what you do. This can be done by using a lead capture form on your website or by asking for their contact information in exchange for a free report, white paper or e-book.

Lead Nurturing System

Once you have captured the contact information of potential customers, you need to have a system in place to nurture those leads until they are ready to buy. This can be done by emailing them content on a regular basis that is relevant to their interests and challenges or by providing them with a free consultation or trial of your product or service.

Sales Conversion Process

Once a potential customer has shown an interest in what you do, it's time to convert them into a paying customer. This can be done by using a sales process that is tailored to your business and the needs of your target audience.

Service Delivery Excellence

You now need to deliver your promise and ensure the service delivery process exceeds your customer's expectations. This means delivering on your promises, providing an excellent customer experience and going the extra mile to ensure that your customers are delighted with your product or service.

Value Ladder Upsell

Your product or service should offer more value than what your customer is paying for. This can be done by using a value ladder, which is a series of products and services that increase in price and value as the customer moves up the ladder.

Orchestrate Referrals

The best way to grow your business is through referrals from happy customers. You need to have a system in place to encourage and reward your customers for referring their friends, family members or work colleagues to your business.

Social media

Social media is a great way to connect with your target audience, share your content and attract more website visitors. You should aim to create social media profiles for your business on the most popular social media platforms like Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, Instagram and YouTube. Once your social media profiles are created, you need to start sharing your content regularly and engaging with your target audience by commenting and liking their posts.

Paid advertising

Paid advertising is a brilliant way to quickly and easily get your website in front of more people. You can use paid advertising platforms like Google AdWords, Facebook Ads and LinkedIn Ads to target your ideal customer and get your website in front of them.

I recommend you don't pay to get visitors to your site until you implement the above and have a Direct Response Marketing plan in place.

Now that you know what's involved in a successful digital marketing campaign, it's time to get started. Implementing these principles will take some effort on your part, but the payoff can be huge and it's well worth the effort.
